I'm a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Warwick, currently involved in the PHEME FP7 project on the study of social media rumors. I'm interested in researching the spread of news and events through social media, and especially in the role of citizen journalists in news reporting. Some of my recent research has dealt with curation, verification, and classification of newsworthy pieces of information shared on social media, involving computational research in fields like text mining, natural language processing, and social computing, but also including an interdisciplinary point of view from social sciences such as journalism and psychology.

Before joining Warwick, I was a postdoc first at the City University of New York and then at DIT. Prior to that, in 2011 I completed my PhD in Computer Science at the National University of Distance Education (UNED) in Madrid, with the thesis titled "Harnessing Folksonomies for Resource Classification".

If you're a researcher and/or love playing with data, you might be interested in the datasets we released recently: a large-scale collection of categorized tweets and a large-scale social-tagging dataset.
